Time and Place Homes: Your Private Hotel
About Us

As Founder and President of Time & Place Homes, Mitch Willey has parlayed his 20-year career in international law and his passion for the preservation and renovation of historic properties into a unique, luxury travel alternative. Begun as a hobby with his first acquisition in 1983, Mr. Willey's savvy and success as an investor and developer has established him as a pioneer in the realm of fine living.

Throughout his career, Mr. Willey has demonstrated a flair for thinking outside of the box and for capitalizing on his extensive experience to offer new perspectives and solutions. As senior counselor with APCO Worldwide, a Washington D.C.-based global public affairs consulting firm, Mr. Willey has represented and advised numerous public and private entities worldwide in complex commercial transactions. He has negotiated contracts for clients in hospitality and banking industries, telecommunications, and consumer products throughout Europe and Latin America.

Prior to joining APCO in 1992, Mr. Willey was the managing partner for a large, multinational law firm located in Washington, D.C., and served as chief international counsel and director of government affairs for Europe, Canada and the Americas for a $7 billion private, U.S. multinational company. In 1990 he was the first recipient of the Guy de Bassompiere Award, given jointly by the Mayor of Washington, D.C. and the Ambassador of Belgium for his efforts in international trade promotion. Living extensively abroad with his family during these years, Mr. Willey cultivated his spirit of living well and his dedication to providing an ultimate travel experience accessible to the luxury traveler.

In each of his personal residences Mr. Willey demonstrates the Time and Place commitment to offering modern convenience while remaining true to traditional style. His skill at seamlessly weaving the old with the new is rooted in the renovation of his 16th century, French penthouse apartment while his work in cool and contemporary Palm Springs, California produced an elegant, modern desert home reminiscent of Old Hollywood. The Willey family's primary residence today is an Italianate home in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia circa 1802. It is his third restoration in Old Town, the previous two being Federal homes dating to the 1750s. Devotion to the preservation of history juxtaposed with contemporary luxuries has been illustrated in the 19 homes Mr. Willey has personally restored to date. Many of these homes are listed on the National Historic Registry.

Mr. Willey graduated with honors from Wesleyan University where he was a Davenport Scholar and was awarded the Thorndike Prize for Scholarship. He holds his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from the University of Virginia where he was president of the Student Legal Form and was a member of the Raven Society.
